Lessons in Leadership: From Watching Different Styles to Finding My Own

In the journey of writing Beyond the Grind, I found myself reflecting on the many leaders I’ve encountered over the years. From inspiring mentors to those with a more aggressive style, each leader left an imprint. Some showed me exactly the kind of leader I wanted to become; others helped me understand what styles I’d rather avoid. All of these experiences have shaped my approach to leadership—and ultimately inspired me to help others lead without burnout or unsustainable hustle.

Great leaders align the crew to row in rhythm, not just row harder.

You might say this blog is a bit of a reflection piece. It’s a chance to share how observing different leadership styles, the good, the challenging, and everything in between has fueled my passion for helping leaders at every level. Whether you’re leading a large corporation, a small team, or just guiding yourself through your career journey, there are common threads we can all weave into a more sustainable approach.

I’ve seen firsthand how Learning & Development, combined with a deep understanding of human resources and the shifts in technology (especially AI), can create a space where leadership is not about relentless hustle but about purposeful, thoughtful growth. We stand on the shoulders of the generations before us, and now we have the tools to lead in a way that prioritizes well-being and sustainable success.

In this blog, and in Beyond the Grind, my hope is to offer a few formulas and reflections to help you navigate your leadership journey. It's about embracing the future of work with a sense of purpose and pacing yourself for the long run. Thanks for joining me on this adventure, let’s lead with intention and make a real impact together.
